d'Arenberg, Dead Arm Shiraz Vintage:2001The first foot trodden vintage. Harvested 28 February to 28 March following a hot January, dry summer and autumn. Of its era, blackcurrant fruit gums and sweet blackberry fruit are front and centre, with a lick of boot polish, mint and sage aromas and a peppery finish. Initially rich and velvety with charred oak which is a touch dry and starting to penetrate the viscosity. Lacks the structure and nuance of more recent vintages.

but it is saline and stimulating and will perform brilliantly in 10-15 years

Croix always seems to produce extraordinary wines from this plot and while there is ample reduction present

Delicate and magnificently subtle

not unctuous but offers very good intensity and snap

pure and more elegant array is comprised by notes of red and dark berry along with hints of earth and floral wisps

it will require more than a decade to fully blossom
