2010 Château Giscours, Margaux, BordeauxHarvest September 27 to October 14. High levels of Cabernet Sauvignon reflect how well this grape did in the 2016 vintage and replanting in the vineyards, and you start to see the Giscours of today. Beautiful, this, for me, is hugely better than 2009, with creaminess to the texture, and plenty of dark ripe fruit character, paired with grip and understated power, opening through to bitter chocolate, sage, liquorice and campfire smoke. Great quality,

This reminded us of the 2004 but has a freshness that bodes well for long ageing potential

along with ripe

a mere 36% of the entire production was selected for the 2008 Chateau Margaux

the 2010 Château Branaire-Ducru is largely Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes 24% Merlot

Deep garnet colored

sleeping giant of a wine with monumental levels of fruit but an exquisitely fine demeanour

with subtle hints of dried flowers and wood bark

its synaesthetic appeal the fruits of ancient vines and traditional vinification

yet I suspect it will benefit from another 4-5 years in the cellar

revealing notes of truffles
