black nikka square bottle 360mlAt the end of the 1990s, Nikka launched its Black Nikka in a square 360ml bottle as a limited edition on the Japanese market. It was also bottled at 40% ABV, rather than the usual 42%.

This label design was only used by Nikka for G&G until the late 1960s

this whisky quickly disappeared from the shelves

This whisky is therefore extremely rare and only a small edition was produced

This gastro version of the popular Suntory Old Whisky dates back to the 1980s

was only released in small quantities on the Japanese market and is now available only in two prefectures in Japan

Bottled at 47% ABV in late 2018

Only select grain and malt whiskies aged at least 21 years were used for this bottling

Botanicals used included Sancho pepper

the sake cask in which the malt whisky matured for 4 years was carefully selected

it is unknown which whisky was bottled

It impresses with its mild and round taste
