Giuseppe Mascarello, Barolo Santo Stefano di Perno Vintage:2009Good deep red. Ripe but distinctly wild nose hints at strawberry and musky roast coffee. Then a bit lower pitched in the mouth than the Villero and much more tannic on the back end. A somewhat rustic leathery element currently dominates underlying fruit. I'm not wild for the oak treatment here, which gives the finish a dry edge. Stephen Tanzer
